Who doesn't pay
- Dependants. Spouses and children coming on F-2, M-2 or J-2 visas don't pay. If one of them later changes to F-1, M-1 or J-1 status, they must pay first.
- Government-sponsored exchange visitors whose DS-2019 programme code starts with G-1, G-2, G-3 or G-7.
- Visa reapplicants within 12 months. If your visa was denied and you reapply for the same type within 12 months of paying, you don't pay again. See after a visa denial.
Is the SEVIS fee the same as the visa fee?
No. The visa application fee is a separate, non-refundable fee paid for your visa appointment. The SEVIS fee supports the system that tracks students and exchange visitors. Most F, M and J applicants need to pay both.
